JAMB 2017 Candidates To Choose Only One Public University During Registration

The Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) has disclosed that candidates for the 2017 UTME will not be able to choose two public universities during the registration.

This was disclosed through the board's twitter handle. It reads: “candidates can select NCE as their choice up to three times I.e 1st choice, 2nd choice and 3rd choice.
“But they are not allowed to select two public universities as choices. If candidates select a public university as their degree awarding choices, they are allowed to select a private university as another choice.”

According to the Mr. Benjamin Head of Information JAMB, the Board took the restrictions because candidates hardly get admissions into their second and third choice universities.
“Yes we restricted the choice to one but candidates can choose as many colleges or polytechnics,” he said.

“We discovered it was of no use choosing a university as second choice when in actual sense they can’t even accommodate their first choices,” the JAMB official said.

What do you think of this development and the reason given by JAMB for this?

This is to harsh post because some parent don't have money to send their children to private university and they will want their children to attend university and if one public university don't choose them, another preferred public university they choose will accept them
26-Feb-2017 15:52:35 ·
kendoodogwu; sir, it's not harsh. it's just common sense. those public varsities can't even accommodate the students that chose them as first choice, not to talk of second choice.

bilaudaud; 2017/18 jambites, better be thankful to jamb for this new development. I wrote jamb last year and had 200+ and was not offered admission to my first choice university. The university will not even consider second choice let alone answer them. Jamb just revealed the secret of how university run there admission. and now u are complaining. After registering for jamb, when the statistics of the candidates that applied for ur school has been shown to you. The rest lie on ur hardwork. Just note that

Engineering student won't be admitted more that 200 and at worst 250 in a class.
Medical students won't be more that 400 in a class.
so don't take this year jamb for joke. Don't look at it that There is no second choice again. Nevertheless, if there is even second choice, and u are admitted to both. U will only use one and waste the other while some have not even been considered. U sef reason am now.

I fully welcome Jamb new development. Although, I'm into IJMB program now and still waiting to secure for jamb form. To clearify ur ignorance, ask those that wrote jamb last year if there were able to secure admission via second choice.
thanks

And mind you ..if peradventure u secure admission into a private uni like say Madonna.. U maybe given a nice course ..I mean they got good good course ..but have u ever thought about the fees?..no u haven't ..u only think about yourself! you only think about how this rubbish is a nice development .. Anyway for me ..I'll still prefer the Public public poo! ..

Hawi Nini bae ..you can do better ...Learn to approach people with good manner.. (this book u dey claim as if na u dey read pass ...how many hours u dey read a day sev)

this is a dirt which should be discharged in the trash...! Only the big fish in this country can afford private university. Where do you expect the small fry to get the capital to settle the huge tuitions this private universities impose...? This latest development should be scrapped out without delay 'cause it's capable of ruining the life of ordinary folks in this country...

to me it's a welcome development, as it would allow candidates to be precise in their choice.

2nd the issue of over 103 candidates choosing Unilorin and some of the same set will still compete with those who have chosen Lautech as first choice,
and such gives rise in cut off point and the likes

Imagine you have chosen 2 schools and both one of them offered you admission, you will accept one admission and waste the other slot which is a slap on some other candidates.

choose one school and struggle to gain the admission.

pls guys i need replies to dis question.. a friend of my wanna take jamb dis yr. applyin to study English language in unilag but havin C6 in both English and literature, xo he wana know if dat culd affect z admission evn if he meets d cutoff?? nd he also wana knw wch is beta nd less competitive in unilag, English language or Philosophy?? ur replies wl b appreciated. tnks
26-Feb-2017 22:04:51 ·
Ibn momoh; Yes, it will undoubtedly affect his aggreegate score and then his admission. After putme was cancelled last year, unilag used d point system method(combinatn of jamb score and d score from ur ssce result of 5 subjects related to ur course of study) to give admission.D maximum 100% score was equally shared btw ur jamb score & ur ssce score, thereby giving ssce result equal power with jamb to determine ur admission status.so,if one has a poor ssce result, eventhough with a very powerful jamb score say 270 and above, he may not be offered admission. In regard to d question of which has d highest competition btw English & philosophy in admission fight, i truly do not know.
