Answers to some Unimaid Questions
The attention of the Management of the University of Maiduguri has been drawn to a story in one of the National Dailies to the effect that the resumption date for students of the Institution has been extended by three (3) months and the cancellation of one academic session thereby jeopardizing the chance of students that applied for admission into the University.
The Management will like to make it categorically clear that while the cancellation of one academic session was done due to the security challenges in the state, it has in no way affected other academic programmes of the University.
Furthermore, there was never a time that the resumption date for new and returning students got extended as portrayed by these dailies, and one wonders where and how the story came about! For the avoidance of doubt, the Senate of the University at its meeting held on the 28th of June 2012 approved Calendar of dates and events for the 2012/2013 session.
According to the Calendar, registration for first semester 2012/2013 session for all students (including those who applied and got selected for the 2012/2013 admissions exercise) commences from 3rd September 2012 and ends on 22nd September 2012 while Lectures begin for all students on 24th September 2012.
The first semester examinations will commence January 14th 2013 and end February 9th 2013.
Lectures for the second semester begin February 25th 2013 with examination commencing on 17th of June and to end on July 13th 2013.
In the light of the above, the Management will like to seize this opportunity to appeal to members of the press to always cross-check and seek for clarifications where necessary before going to Press.
