The present curriculum for Senior Secondary Schools across the country will be gradually phased out within the next two years, and replaced with a newly reconstructed version.

The executive Secretary, Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council, Professor Godwill Obioma dropped this hint during the sensitization workshop for the implementation of the new curriculum, held in Zamfara State capital,Gusau, yesterday.

Professor Godwill, who was represented at the workshop by the director, NERDC, North-West zone, Mr. Victor Ebgaboh, explained, however, that the SS 1 students will from this academic year, start using the new curriculum while students of SS II and III will still use the current document for their WAEC examinations.

Godwill further explained that, the Federal government has not scrapped the teaching of Islam and Christianity or languages like Arabic, which he said were still maintained as part of Humanities.

Earlier, the director of NRDEC, north-west zone, Mr. Egbabor, represented at the workshop by the assistant Chief research officer, Alhaji Bashir Lawal Yakasai, said the Workshop dubbed, 'Advocacy and Sensitisation workshop' was intended to be train-the trainers exercise, designed o re-equip all teachers involved in the implementation of the reconstituted curriculum.
