The 21 days of Y’ellow Care programme recently observed by the telecommunications giant, MTN might have come and gone but its impact on many Nigerian students will remain ever green especially in the area of mentoring, an aspect that has almost been neglected by many academicians in the country.

The programme was a staff volunteer scheme of the organisation where members of staff volunteer their time and resources to impact the lives of others in their communities by paying visits to schools in terms of mentoring and planting trees.

During the just concluded programme, some selected schools were visited across the country as the team spent quality time to mentor the students.

In Alvana Model Secondary School, a school owned by the Alvan Ikoku College of Education in Owerri, Imo State, the team discovered the astounding talents abound in the children. From graphics, textile designs, collage, pencil works, bead-making, paper-mesh and other crafts.

Majority of the students in the Arts studio were science inclined but the mentoring team was able to help them realize the advantages of cultivating talent that may prove very useful in future.

Speaking to the team while giving them a tour of the Art studio, the Principal of the school, Sir Ben Ihenacho spoke about an Art exhibition conducted for the first time in the school.

According to him, the exhibition was facilitated by Mrs. Ezikpe and her team after which parents, government officials and other dignitaries of the state were invited to witness the talents of the students. Most parents were amazed at the talent of their wards and pledged to continue encouraging them especially during the holidays.
